Wow – an E9 BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile”
The Batmobile is a legendary car from BMW , touting unique aerodynamic styling and a racing pedigree that established BMW Motorsport. This particular example is especially desirable, as it doesn’t have the City Package, meaning all of its weight-saving measures are intact — plexiglass side windows, no sound deadening, no power steering, no air conditioning, and more. It’s also one of the later CSL models produced, meaning it features the larger fuel-injected 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine. The distinctive ‘Batmobile’ Aerodynamic Kit (lower front spoiler, fender-mounted rubber air guides, roof-mounted spoiler, trunk-mounted split spoiler) and M stripes that we all associate with the Batmobile.
Factory equipment on this CSL includes 14 inch Alpina wheels, a front lower air dam, BMW Motorsports stripes, fender-mounted air guides, roof-mounted rear spoiler, trunk-mounted split spoiler, aluminium hood, doors, and trunk, hood pins, plexiglass side windows, thinner front and rear windshields, unassisted steering, crank windows , air conditioning delete and Scheel sport seats.
Introduced as a homologation special to participate in the European Touring Car Championship, the 3.0 CSL, or Coupe Sport Lightweight with a thinner CSL-specific Karmann body was the stripped-out, performance-focused variant of the luxurious E9 coupe. This example is a later 3.2-liter CSL, which received the larger fuel-injected version of the famed M30 and the iconic Batmobile aerodynamic additions split rear wing. Built in two series, this CSL is one of just 110 Series I fuel-injected CSLs produced from July 1973 to January 1974.
Power comes from a fuel-injected 3.2-liter M30 inline-6, rated at 206 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission and a limited slip differential.
The previous owner Danny McKenna ( McKenna Auto Group ) purchased this CSL in 2019 from Mint Classics in Belgium. It was subsequently imported to the US, and it remained in the McKenna collection in Southern California until it was purchased by Auto West BMW Classic Garage & imported to Richmond , B.C. Canada in August 2025
